Wembley Sports Park Development

Wembley Sports Park, bounded by Salvado Road, Selby Street, Hay Street and Halesworth is an extremely popular centre of sporting activity that, throughout the year, is enjoyed by thousands of men, women and children across a variety of sports - Netball, Cricket, Baseball and AFL Football.
The $13 million project is nearing completion, and boasts the following facilities:
Matthews Netball Centre
Home to the Perth Netball Association this centre accommodates nearly 7,000 players, coaches and volunteers each netball season. The redeveloped centre includes 48 outdoor netball courts (37 hard and 11 grass courts); and a new purpose built Perth Netball Association building.
Wembley Athletics Club
The Wembley Athletics Club is home to several thousand players representing the sports of baseball, cricket and AFL football. Tthe redevelopment has provided players with two new football ovals; two new baseball diamonds; and relocated cricket wickets.
State Netball Centre
In conjunction with the above works, the WA Government will be building the State Neball Centre, home of Netball WA and elite level netball.
What's left to do?
September 2014 - final phase of Masterplan
The final phase of the Wembley Sports Park masterplan, the planning of the Pat Goodridge Pavilion, is underway.
A concept plan has been prepared which includes refurbishment of the existing pavilion and the build of a new pavilion adjacent to the existing, linked with a covered walkway.
Council endorsement will be sought before comment on the design is invited from the community.

Background to the Development
As well as the above works the development will include the construction of new internal roads, car parks, a signalised intersection at the junction of Selby and Alderbury Streets and extensive landscaping across the park.
The State Government will be leasing a portion of the land, on which they will be builidng a new State Netball Centre. Construction of the centre is due to begin in 2013.
Funding for the Wembley Sports Park redevelopment works have been sourced from:
- $7.5 million from the State Government (negotiated as part of the leasing arrangments for the State Netball Centre); and
- $5 from Landcorp as advance payment for the development of the Town of Cambridge owned Former Nursery Site on Salvado Road.
