The Town of Cambridge stretches along 4.8 kilometres of coastline which includes City Beach and Floreat Beach, both extremely popular swimming, surfing and fishing beaches. Picnic areas are dotted along the shaded parklands and include facilities such as free barbecues and  shaded play areas all accessible via well maintained pedestrian walkways.

City Beach

City Beach offers a wonderful range of facilities for visitors to enjoy and with new infrastructure built in 2008, as part of the City Beach Redevelopment Plan, there is something here for everyone.

$1.3 million dollars spent in 2008 upgrading the beaches facilities saw the completion of:

  • an amphitheatre with terraced seating and grassed areas
  • water wise landscaping
  • extension of grassed areas
  • improved access to the beach via ramps and steps
  • additional outdoor showers, seating, drinking fountains and picnic tables.

These improvements complemented the public facilities already available at City Beach.  These facilities include:

  • extensive grassed parklands
  • two playgrounds with soft fall surface and shade sails
  • picnic facilities
  • barbecues
  • drinking fountains and taps
  • outdoor showers
  • toilets
  • public telephone
  • rubbish bins

Top all this off with a deliciously laid back dining experience at Clancy's Fish Bar, providing a relaxed seafood dining experience right in the heart of the City Beach parkland.

Floreat Beach

Located only 12kms from the Perth city centre and less than 2kms north of City Beach, Floreat is a popular family beach, perfect for anyone who enjoys swimming, surfing, kite surfing or fishing.

With ample parking available, facilities to be enjoyed at Floreat Beach include:

  • lush, green lawns with plenty of shade
  • seating
  • picnic tables
  • barbecues
  • lighting
  • public toilets
  • change rooms
  • showers
  • large shaded playground with soft fall

And if you're after something to eat, anything from a snack through to a full meal, step into The Kiosk, located right on the beachfront and open all year round.

City Beach named WA's Friendliest!

In March 2009 City Beach was named WA's Friendliest Beach by the Keep Australia Beautiful Council and Surf Lifesaving WA, as part of WA's Clean Beach Challenge Awards.

The awards recognised excellence in beach environments across the state in the categories of:

  • Friendliest

  • Natural Resource Management
  • Community Action and Environmental Protection

Both of our local beaches, City Beach and Floreat, have been recipients of awards over the years recognising excellence in the beach environment.  A list of the awards achieved can be viewed on the Awards page.

Safety and accessibility at our beaches
