Architectural accolades for Wembley

Published on 29 June 2017

The Wembley Golf Course hospitality development was recognised as Western Australia's best commercial architecture at last weeks' WA Institute of Architects awards presentation.

Awarded the Ross Chilsholm and Gil Nichol Award for commercial architecture, the Gresley Abas Architects designed precinct beat a strong field of contenders to take out the highest award in the commercial architecture category.

Top award winners in each category progress to the Australian Institute of Architects National Awards to be judged against the best architectural works in the country.

The redevelopment at Wembley Golf Course has successfully reinvented the public golf course as a hospitality destination for golfers and non-golfers alike. The stunning hospitality precinct, which houses the 300 Acres clubhouse, bar and restaurant, plus the Ambrose Estate function centre, has become a popular venue enjoyed by golfers, families and the community as a whole. Development of the 18-hole miniature golf course and adjoining children's playground has added to Wembley's appeal and has attracted many new visitors to the course. The costs of the new facilities are recovered from the patrons of the venue and do not impact on rates.

This latest award adds to ones collected at the 2016 WA Institute of Architect Awards when the City Beach Surf Club and Commercial Precinct was awarded and the Bold Park Aquatic Centre commended.

The Town of Cambridge would like to thank Gresley Abas Architects for their vision and stunning design, and congratulate them on taking out this prestigious award.
