The purpose of this 'Frequently Asked Questions' page is to provide answers to the questions most commonly asked by the public.

Do we get issued with tip passes?

The Town of Cambridge does not have a tip, however we have two verge pick ups each year, being August/September and March/April.


Where is your tip?

The Town of Cambridge does not have a tip, however residents are able to utilise facilities at the following locations for a fee:

    Brockway Transfer Station

    Corner Lemnos & Brockway Road
    Shenton Park

    City of Stirling

    Balcatta Road
    Balcatta

    Tamala Park Refuse and Recycling Centre

    Marmion Ave
    Mindarie


What do I do with other recyclable items that are not collected by the Town?

The Town in conjunction with the Western Environmental Health Officer's Group has been successful in its initiative to obtain approval to use the Western Metropolitan Regional Council Transfer Station for recycling of some goods.

The recycling station is at the corner of Lemnos Street and Brockway Road, Shenton Park.

Residents can deposit the following items:

  • Car batteries
  • Mobile phones plus batteries and accessories
  • Engine oil (maximum of 10 litres)
  • Scrap metal (items to be of the size that fits into a two cubic metre bin)
  • Cardboard will be received and is to be placed into the used wool sacks supplied.
  • There is no cost for the delivery and disposal of these items at the transfer station, however, to be able to leave the items at this station it is necessary that there be clear evidence that the resident is from the Town of Cambridge. This evidence will be in the form of a paid rates notice receipt.

For a small charge, the recycling station will accept the following items:

  • Tyres up to four wheel drive size ($4.00 each)(maximum 4)
  • Asbestos to be individually wrapped and sealed in heavy duty plastic prior to delivery to the transfer station and to be unloaded by the resident onto the pallet supplied (maximum of three sheets $4.40 per sheet or $13.20 for three).

Evidence of being a Town of Cambridge resident will also be necessary for these items.

The hours for which the transfer recycling station is open are:

  • Monday to Friday - 7.30am to 3.45pm
  • Saturday and Sunday - 10.00am to 1.00pm

The facility is not open on Christmas Day, New Years Day and Good Friday.

When is the next verge pick up?

There are two verge pick-ups each year, one in August/September and the other in March/April. You will be notified of your verge pick up through a letterbox notice. Please phone a Customer Service Officer on 9347 6000 for further information.


What type of rubbish can I put out for the verge pick up?

The bulk rubbish verge collection will remove:

  • Large garden waste too big for your green waste bin (up to 1.5m in length)
  • Old furniture
  • Stoves
  • Refrigerators (doors removed)
  • General Junk
  • Lawn clippings and leaves in boxes or bags, shrub prunings

The bulk rubbish verge collection will NOT remove:

  • Bricks, rubble, sand, cement, tiles or timber
  • Food or household waste
  • Motor vehicles (whole or parts)
  • Tyres
  • Large tree stumps, trunks or branches over 1.5m
  • Inflammable liquids including paint
  • Oil etc.
  • Asbestos products


What sort of rubbish bins should I have?

Each residential house is provided with one 240 litre bin for household and green waste, one 120 litre bin for recyclables.


What do you put in each bin?

All general household rubbish and green garden waste should be placed in the 240 litre bin which will be collected weekly. The 120 litre recyclable bin is a fortnightly collection.

Only certain items can be recycled they are:-

  • Glass Bottles and Jars only - no china, porcelain, pottery or other types of glass. No lids.
  • Drink Cartons including long life cartons.
  • Steel and aluminium cans including aerosols - no other metal items of any kind.
  • Newspapers, office paper, magazines and junk mail -no phone books
  • Plastic bottles only - no other plastic items of any kind. No lids.
  • All other cardboard - remove contents and liners.


What do I do if my bins are damaged or go missing?

Contact a Customer Service Officer, they will be able to arrange for repairs or replacement bins, telephone 9347 6000.


How do I arrange an additional bin?

A 240 litre recycle bin upgrade is available for a one off payment of $30 by contacting a Customer Service Officer on 9347 6000. Requests for additonal waste or recycling bins must be in writing and a notice will be issued for the cost of this service.
