Floreat Sporting Precinct
In February 2000 the Town appointed an Architect to undertake a Master Plan Study of the Floreat Sporting Precinct including ingress and egress, parking, available land use options and estimate construction costs of the new Cambridge Bowling Club facility.
After extensive consultation with stakeholders a master plan was developed by Hoffman Architects and put to Council for consideration. In December 2000 Council received that Master Plan and decided that subject to satisfactory funding arrangements being adopted, the Town proceed with the construction of a new Bowling Club and Croquet facility, relocate the practice cricket wickets, upgrade access and parking at the Reabold Tennis Club, upgrade the Sydney Cheek Pavilion, upgrade car parking, landscaping, fencing and footpaths in the precinct.
It was later agreed that Council would borrow funds to undertake the above development subject to the Town receiving approval from the WA Planning Commission to amend the zoning on the land on the corner of The Boulevard and Kalinda Drive in City Beach from recreation to urban and subsequent approval to a Town Planning Scheme amendment from that authority. WA Planning Commission approval was received in December 2003.
In May 2003 the Town appointed Oldfield Knott Architects to review the Master Plan, finalise the design and project manage the works for the construction of the Floreat Sporting Precinct through to completion. Council at its meeting in December 2003 decided on its preferred option for the development of the precinct and approved the construction of the cricket wickets as forward works. These works were required to be carried out in the drier months because of the construction of the clay wickets.
Prior to proceeding with major construction works the Town widely advertised and invited residents living in close proximity to comment on the preferred plan. As a result of some issues and comments received the Town amended the plan.
The Town has progressed to the next stage, which includes the construction of the Floreat Sporting Precinct.
