A Bold Park Aquatic (BPA) representative presented at the WA Aquatic Recreation Conference & Trade Show on 16 August 2024, sharing BPA’s innovative community engagement efforts, particularly through the theatre production The Pool.

BPA Centre Manager Tamara Sanders highlighted the diverse patron groups at BPA, from lap swimmers to aqua participants, and stressed the importance of engaging these unique communities.

She recounted the journey of The Pool, a world-first theatre production staged in the outdoor swimming pool in February 2024. Presented by Black Swan Theatre Company, in conjunction with Perth Festival, the production used the pool as a stage, attracting nearly 8,000 attendees across 15 shows and introducing many new visitors to the scenic facility.

The success of The Pool was driven by strong staff involvement and community engagement efforts, including bold signage, social media campaigns, and targeted newsletters. The production boosted attendance and increased general admissions by 15.6 per cent and aqua participation by 17.7 per cent compared to the previous year.

Ms Sanders concluded by encouraging her industry peers to embrace creative risks, demonstrating how initiatives like The Pool can significantly enhance community engagement and invigorate public facilities.
