Published on 28 April 2025
Our Town of Cambridge community came together last Friday, 25 April 2025, to honour the sacrifices of service men and women at a moving ANZAC Day ceremony at West Leederville Memorial Gardens, with strong attendance from local schools, dignitaries, and community groups.
The Australian Air Force Cadets opened the service with the solemn mounting of the Catafalque Party, setting a respectful tone for the morning. The involvement of local primary schools, Scouts, and Girl Guides added to the sense of unity across generations, reflecting the enduring importance of remembrance in the Town of Cambridge.
Among the notable attendees were Mr John Murphy, 97 years old and President of the RSL WA Cambridge Sub-Branch, himself a Korean War veteran; Mr Alan Wilson, Secretary of the Cambridge Sub-Branch RSLWA; Sarah Silbert, Chief of Staff for Federal Member for Curtin, Kate Chaney; Mr Basil Zempilas MLA, Leader of the WA Liberal Party; Mayor Gary Mack; Deputy Mayor Ben Mayes; and Councillors Kate Barlow, Susan Kennerley, Xavier Carr, and Michael Le Page.
