The Town of Cambridge is participating in the 40km/h Speed Zone Project as part of the Perth Inner City Group of Councils (PICG) initiative.

This project aims to reduce speed limits to 40km/h on local streets within the inner Perth metropolitan area, improving safety and creating more liveable neighbourhoods.

The Town will introduce a 40km/h speed limit on local roads east of Selby St in Wembley, West Leederville, and Jolimont. These areas border the City of Subiaco to the south, the City of Perth to the east, and the City of Vincent, separated by Mitchell Freeway.

Major roads within the Town not included in the project are Jon Sanders Dr, Powis St, Herdsman Pde, Harborne St, Grantham St, Lake Monger Dr, Southport St, The Blvd, Cambridge St, Salvado Rd (east of Jersey St), Railway Pde, and Loftus St. The speed limit on Ruislip Safe Active Street will remain at 30km/h.

Mayor Gary Mack emphasised the importance of this project, stating the Town’s commitment to creating safer streets and fostering a sense of community.

“Lowering speed limits to 40km/h on local streets is a proactive measure to reduce crash likelihood and severity, support active transport, and enhance the safety of all road users, particularly pedestrians and cyclists,” he said.

“Hearing the voices of our community is vital in shaping how we move forward with this project. We encourage all residents to share their views through the survey, as your feedback will help guide our approach to improving local road safety.”

The Town of Cambridge invites residents to participate in the engagement survey to share their thoughts on the proposed speed reduction. The survey is open from 12 May to 8 June 2025.

Residents can complete the survey online by visiting https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/CY2JW7F. A paper version of the survey will also be distributed, and residents can return it via the reply-paid envelope.
