Our role in an emergency

In an emergency, we support response services and coordinate relief and recovery efforts within the Town.

To prepare and prevent emergencies we:
  • Prepare and maintain the Local Emergency Management Recovery Plan
  • Work with other councils across the western central region to ensure effective Western Central Local Emergency Management Arrangements are prepared and maintained for the Town and the surrounding councils
  • Implement relevant local government legislation (eg. fire, health, building and planning) and perform functions given to local government under the Emergency Management Act 2005
In an emergency we:
  • Activate the Local Emergency Management Recovery Plan 
  • Assist the emergency responders with the provision of local knowledge, available resources on a needs basis
  • Assist with the communications and liaison between emergency responders and residents. Providing information hubs for affected residents
  • If needed, provide access to facilities to establish a local welfare (evacuation) centre
  • Recovery planning and implementation, including the appointment of a Local Recovery Coordinator 
  • Conduct post recovery assessments and reviews
