The Town of Cambridge has a total of 190 kilometers of sealed roads and lanes (ROWs). The resurfacing program is initially scheduled based on the surface age of each section of pavement, with general base intervals as follows:
- Lanes and Paths: every 30-35 years
- Access Roads: every 30 years
- Local Distributor Roads: every 25 years
- District Distributor B Roads: every 20 years
- District Distributor A Roads: every 15 years
This schedule is then adjusted according to the specific condition of each road section, taking into account factors like rutting, cracking, and surface repairs. The proactive maintenance program aims to resurface an average of 4.35 kilometers per year.
By coordinating resurfacing efforts in nearby areas, this approach maximises efficiency and minimises disruption for the community. This maintenance strategy ensures that local roads remain in good condition, typically resurfaced every 25 to 35 years, demonstrating a commitment to preserving the quality and accessibility of vital road infrastructure for all.

What to Expect During The Works
Local residents will receive notification about the works 1-2 weeks before they begin. Due to the nature of the work, sections of the road may be left unsealed and open to traffic at various times, which may lead to increased dust and noise in the immediate area. While this is unavoidable, measures will be implemented to minimize the impact. Speed reductions and detours will be in effect for the duration of the works.
Road Closures and Detours
Notifications about road closures, including specific times, will be posted on this page once the schedule is confirmed. General asphalt resurfacing works are expected to be completed within two to three days. All affected residents will receive direct notifications at least two weeks prior to the start of the work.
