The Town of Cambridge manages a total of 82 carparks. Resurfacing of car parks is based on surface age and condition the program aims to renew the surface every 30- 40 year. As part of the Town’s 2024/25 Capital Works Program, asphalt resurfacing and upgrades will be carried out at the C305, C307, and C308 car parks near City Beach. Key upgrades include:

  • Replacement of the existing cracked asphalt with red asphalt
  • Construction of pedestrian-priority pathways through the car parks
  • Widened parking bays for improved accessibility
  • New tree plantings to enhance shade and amenity

The new surface is designed to improve visibility and safety while retaining the benefits of traditional asphalt such as being hard-wearing, weather resistant, and low maintenance. Red asphalt can help reduce surface temperatures and seamlessly blend with the surrounding landscape, making it both a practical and visually appealing solution. Access to the beach, restaurants, playgrounds, and other amenities will be maintained throughout the project however minor detours will be in place throughout.

Construction work will generally take place between 7:00am and 7:00pm, Monday to Friday. Tree planning are scheduled for middle of May to take advantage of the cooler conditions and lesson demand for pedestrian activities.

What to Expect During Works

Due to the nature of resurfacing carpark areas, each of the three carparks at City Beach will be fenced and closed for public access. We are committed to minimising disruptions and maintaining overall parking capacity within the City Beach precinct throughout. During construction, you can expect an increase in noise and dust in the immediate vicinity. Work will be carefully staged, with only one carpark closed at any one time to ensure continued parking availability.
