The Town of Cambridge has developed a draft Lake Monger (Galup) Management Plan 2024-2034 and draft Lake Monger (Galup) Master Plan 2024-2034 to help direct activities and projects to be undertaken within the reserve, over the next ten years.

As required by the Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage, this plan has been developed in consultation with Whadjuk Noongar Traditional Owners and Elders and will replace previous plans for the reserve.

Lake Monger is known to the Whadjuk Noongar people as Galup (meaning home fire or location of home).

In July, the Town sought community feedback on the Draft Lake Monger (Galup) Management Plan 2024-2034 and Draft Lake Monger (Galup) Master Plan 2024-2034.

As part of the survey, the Town also sought feedback on a proposed change of name for the reserve, from “Lake Monger” to “Galup” as requested by the Whadjuk Noongar Registered Knowledge Holders and Council.

The Draft Lake Monger (Galup) Management Plan 2024-2034 details objectives, strategies and tasks needed to ensure the effective environmental management of this important reserve. The Draft Lake Monger (Galup) Master Plan 2024-2034 provides visual representation of the proposed activities and their locations.
