The Lake Monger South West Activity node is being progressively upgraded to reflect the strategies outlined in the Lake Monger Activity Plan. Works recently completed or currently underway include a new toilet and car park and removal of three existing car parks along Lake Monger Drive.

This project will see the delivery of supporting infrastructure to make this a excellent location for families and social groups.  The existing basketball pad is proposed to be replaced by a new basketball facility. Works will also include the addition a new picnic area with shelters and BBQ. However, prior to delivery, the Town would like to understand how the community use this space and what facilities they would like to see.

The Federal Government has allocated the Town $281,804 through their Local Roads, Community and Infrastructure program (LRCI) – a portion of which will be used to co-fund this project.

Expected Schedule of Works

  • Construction commences: May 2024
  • Completion: July 2024

Progress Update

The design, engagement, and procurement phase is now complete. Works are expected to commence in May and take approximately eight weeks to complete.

Have Your Say - Public Survey Results and Feedback

In 2018 the Town undertook engagement with the community as part of the development of the Lake Monger Activity plan. One of the actions identified during the engagement process highlighted the South-West Activity Node as an area for informal sports activation. To ensure the proposed upgrades meet the needs of the community we reached out to park users and local residents to provide feedback through a public survey. The survey period ran for four weeks, closing Monday, 1 April and 256 responses were received. More details on the survey results are available by clicking the link under "Related Information".

Respondents were asked to rank options for how they would like to see the existing basketball facilities replaced – with a full-size basketball court, a half-sized basketball court or no basketball facility at all. The majority of users surveyed (~70%) supported a full-size court option.

Park users were also asked to rate their level of support for the proposed upgraded picnic facilities and BBQ using a slider, with 0 being strongly against new picnic facilities and 100 being strongly in favour of new picnic facilities. The level of support was high with an average score of 80.

The public survey results, on balance, are in favour of a full-sized basketball court and new BBQ and picnic facilities in the proposed location as shown below.
