Snakes

What to do when you see a snake

During the warmer weather reptiles are on the move, so the possibility of encountering may be enhanced.

If you see a snake:

STAY CALM

  • Though this seems difficult, this is one of the most important pieces of advice when spotting a snake for your safety.

MOVE SLOWLY

  •  Stay still, don't panic and try to move away slowly.

DO NOT APPROACH

  • Do not approach or aggravate the snake even if you think it is safe to do so. Snakes generally attack when feeling threatened.

CALL FOR HELP

  • If you see a snake, please contact the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions 24-hour Wildcare Helpline on (08) 9474 9055 for advice.

  • Remain as still as possible until help arrives.
