Local Planning Strategy

The Town has prepared a Draft Local Planning Strategy (LPS) to provide strategic direction for future town planning and development, and the review of Town of Cambridge Town Planning Scheme No.1.

The LPS considers a diverse range of issues including housing and demographics, transport and infrastructure, commercial activity and employment, tourism, community facilities and the natural environment.

The LPS seeks to address the Town's requirement to develop options to meet housing targets under the State Government's Directions 2031, draft Perth and Peel @ 3.5 Million and the draft Central Sub-regional Planning Framework.

Following preliminary community engagement, at the Ordinary Council Meeting held on Tuesday 18 December 2018, Council resolved to adopt the LPS, subject to modifications and upon completion of the modifications, submit the LPS to the Western Australian Planning Commission for certification in accordance with Part 3, Regulation 12 of the Planning and Development (Local Planning Schemes) Regulations 2015.

The LPS(PDF, 242MB) has been submitted to the WAPC and will now be assessed for compliance with regulation 11(2) of the Planning and Development (Local Planning Schemes) Regulations 2015. This submission included the modified LPS(PDF, 32MB) and Background Analysis Report(PDF, 28MB) .

Once considered by the WAPC, a report will be presented to Council regarding the formal advertising of the LPS.
