Commonwealth Games Queen’s Baton Relay

The Commonwealth Games Queen’s Baton Relay will be coming to City Beach and Floreat Beach. Cheer on our local baton-bearers and join in the exciting festivities at City Beach Amphitheatre. Celebrations will begin at City Beach Amphitheatre at 12 noon till 2pm with free activities including kite kinetics, tennis games, a slippery slide, the freedom fairies and the Junkadelic Band.

Baton Route 

The Baton will travel along Challenger Parade heading north at 1pm and will arrive at City Beach Amphitheatre at 1:40pm. The Baton will continue to Floreat Beach along Challenger Parade before leaving via West Coast Highway at 2:10pm

Traffic and Parking

We encourage visitors to follow directional signage on the day however please note the following:

Between 12pm and 1pm: There will be minor disruptions to Challenger Parade and the surrounding streets while preparing for the arrival and passage of the Queen's Baton Relay convoy.

Between 12:30pm and 2:30pm: Challenger Parade North will be closed whilst normal traffic will flow heading South. There will be temporary closures to streets and car parks surrounding Challenger Parade approximately 30 minutes before the Baton passes through the area. This includes traffic management on the following side streets:

  • Launceston at 12.38PM
  • Bodmin at 12.43PM
  • Falmouth at 12.43PM
  • Boscombe at 12.53PM
  • Jubilee at 12.53PM

The convoy length is 800 meters and the speed is 5km/hr; closures will be removed as soon as the convoy has moved on.

Margie Oldfield

Margie is a dedicated community sports volunteer. This year she was selected as Cricket's Western Australian Volunteer of the Year for her work with junior girl’s cricket. Cricket Australia then selected her as Australian Volunteer of the Year. Margie is passionate about girls having fun whilst playing sport. She creates a great environment where everyone feels included. Margie encourages all girls to volunteer at the club. Margie has increased the number of girls playing cricket by about ten times at our club. We now have more girls playing cricket than any other club in the state because of Margie.

Jack Sinclair

Although just 22, Jack is committed to serving his community.  While studying a Physiotherapy/Exercise & Sports Science double degree, he additionally is a qualified volunteer surf life saver, volunteer firefighter with the New Norcia Bushfire Brigade and pool life guard. He has a strong desire to serve his country, and has most recently joined the Australian Army as a Reservist. He is currently undertaking training to become a proud member of Western Australia's 10th Light Horse Regiment. Jack has strong leadership qualities, having previously been a Captain of the Scotch College Boarding House, and is currently raising money for Legacy having completed a 24 hour, 100km walk.

Jacqueline Bjelanovic

Mrs Bjelanovic has volunteered in the Cambridge community for many years.  She was nominated for the 2017 Town of Cambridge Volunteer of the Year Awards.  Jacqueline was nominated by another community member, showing her significant contribution to the community and meeting the criteria of "inspiring others". Jacqueline is an unsung community member who works to keep the Wembley Sports Park environment free from litter. She ensures the area including playground is safe for 100's of children that use the area on a daily basis. This meets the criteria of a 'fun, friendly, vibrant and inclusive community.
