Dog Attacks
The Town of Cambridge takes dog attacks very seriously, and our Rangers are experienced in dealing with such matters.
Dog attacks can happen unexpectedly and can range from simple threatening behaviour such as rushing, to more serious attacks on a person or animal. The registered owner or person in control of the dog at the time of incident, may be held responsible if an incident was to occur. Rangers will utilise their skills to investigate the matter as thoroughly as possible and may result in possible enforcement action that is in the best interest of the community and individuals involved.
We encourage that all incidents, no matter how minor or serious, are reported to Ranger Services as soon as possible. This is important regardless of whether injury has been sustained or not. Reporting the incident ensures that Rangers can educate and minimise further risks to individuals and the community.
We understand that when an incident occurs, emotions may be heightened, and that it can be an overwhelming and a frightening experience.
If you are comfortable in doing so, obtaining the following information would be advantageous to the investigation:
Ranger Services appreciate that all parties involved are cooperative and respectful whilst engaging with Authorised Officers throughout the investigation process. As part of the investigation, a witness statement and any additional supporting evidentiary documentation will be required from all involved parties and witnesses.
