The Sustainable Verge Garden Awards are back for 2022!

Each year, the awards recognise residents who upgrade and maintain their verges with a focus on waterwise landscaping.

This year’s contest offers prizes across two categories:

• Best Sustainable Verge Presentation

• Best Sustainable Verge Transformation

Three prizes will be awarded in each category – a first prize of $500, second prize of $300 and a third prize of $200.

Residents can self-nominate or nominate another property within the Town of Cambridge. Nominations must include a submission of up to 25 words about the verge garden and a photograph of the nominated verge garden.

Judging is set to take place in early September, followed by notifications of the winners and presentations will go ahead in October when gardens are in full bloom.

Mayor Shannon said the awards encouraged sustainable and waterwise verges that added charm to the community and contributed to the greening of Town streetscapes

“The awards recognise the great efforts our residents make to incorporate sustainability into the everyday, which ultimately benefits the local environment,” she said.

Stunning verges in City Beach and Floreat took out the top honours in 2021. James Fuller collected the Best Sustainable Verge Presentation for his work on Canungra Road and the efforts of Olly Berry (pictured with Mayor Keri Shannon) on Lichendale Street won him the Best Sustainable Verge Transformation.

Nominations for the 2022 awards close Friday 2 September. Click here to nominate and for more details.
