The results are in, and we are proud to announce the winners of the 2022 Sustainable Verge Garden Awards!

Each year, the awards recognise residents who upgrade and maintain their verges with a focus on waterwise landscaping.

Prizes are awarded in Best Sustainable Verge Presentation and Best Sustainable Verge Transformation categories, with winners receiving $500 for first prize, $300 for second prize and $200 for third prize.

And now, the envelope please. This year’s Sustainable Verge Garden Award winners are:

Best Sustainable Verge Transformation:

• First place – Kate Ryan, Floreat

• Second place – Mar Knox, West Leederville

• Third place – David Cook, Wembley

Best Sustainable Verge Presentation:

• First place – Kerry Turnock, Wembley

• Second place – Melissa Powell, Floreat

Mayor Keri Shannon said each award recipient had done an amazing job creating a sustainable verge that enhances their streetscape as well as benefits the local environment.

“Congratulations to this year’s recipients, they have all put their own personal stamp on establishing a sustainable verge that adds to the Town’s appeal,” Mayor Shannon said.

To get a head start on next year’s awards, residents looking to create a sustainable verge should consider developing a verge garden plan between now and the end of January.

All verge treatments will need to comply with the Town’s Street Verge Landscape and Maintenance Guidelines. Visit for more details.
