In 2018, the Town of Cambridge undertook community consultation to help inform and develop an Activity Plan(PDF, 2MB) for Lake Monger/Galup which was approved by council in (PDF, 5MB)September 2018(PDF, 5MB).

The Activity Plan noted that pedestrian crossing options should be investigated in conjunction with parking alterations, which would improve access and safety for pedestrians, along with motorists in the local area.

In 2021, a report(PDF, 13MB) presented to council in relation to the construction of a new car park in the South West corner of Lake Monger/Galup, the council report also addressed the removal of the three older carparks along Lake Monger Drive, which were identified as causing both pedestrian and vehicle conflict due to their configuration. To improve the safety and function of the site, the construction of a new parking facility at the South West Corner of Lake Monger/Galup reserve, with access from Gregory Street is being undertaken this financial year.

This new facility of 50 bays, along with the newly-constructed carpark in the South East (which also provided an additional 50 bays) will provide a total of 100 new bays at the reserve. Once the new carpark is constructed, the Town will be decommissioning the three smaller carparks with a combined capacity of 60 bays, an additional 40 parking bays will be available.

A Masterplan(PDF, 7MB) of the section of reserve between the two carparks has been developed, and can be found in the Related Information tab.

It is anticipated that funding will be sought to deliver the remaining works in the proposed concept during the next few years.
