Water samples collected on 2 October from City Beach, City Beach North, and Floreat Beach showed high levels of E. coli at all three sites. The Department has advised that the results indicate recent contamination, highly likely linked to the whale carcass that was recently at South City Beach.

The Town of Cambridge has partnered with Perth Natural Resource Management (NRM) to plant 12,950 seedlings and install a Cocki-trough, to support Black Cockatoos.
This project is part funded through Perth NRM’s ‘Building Resilient Landscapes in the Swan Region: Carnaby’s Black-Cockatoos’ project, funded by the Australian Government Natural Heritage Trust.
The Revegetation and Cockatoo Recovery Project will take place at Galup and Perry Lakes reserves with site preparation commencing in Spring of 2026 and final planting completed in June 2028.
The project will compliment deliverables, outlined in the Galup (Lake Monger) Management Plan and Perry Lakes Management Plan, as well as proposed actions in the Black Cockatoo Conservation Action Plan.
The Cocki-trough will be installed at Galup in 2027 and planting will occur in the winters of 2027 and 2028, to assist in the rehabilitation of degraded land at Galup (1.5ha) and Perry Lakes (0.35ha).
The plant species have been selected and are on order for 2027 winter planting. Photo point monitoring locations have been selected and pre weed control photos have been taken. A weed survey of a section of the Galup site has been completed, prior to initial weed control.
Weed control and mulching will commence in Spring 2026.
