Our Recruitment Process

1.Overview

 Application lodged online Application lodged by post, email, hand delivered
Applicants receive instant email acknowledgement Applicants receive acknowledgement within three working days of the advertised closing date.
Shortlisted candidates contacted by phone and invited for interview
Interviews conducted by panel of two or three Town of Cambridge officers
Successful candidate verbally offered position (may be required to undertake pre-employment screening)
Successful candidate sent formal offer of employment by email and post
Successful candidate to complete and return Acceptance of Offer form 
All unsuccessful candidates notified by email

2.The selection process

  • All applications received by the closing date will be rigorously assessed by the selection panel.
  • Consideration for interview will be based on your employment history relevant to the advertised position.
  • Shortlisted applicants will be contacted by phone to make arrangements for an interview.
  • Following appointment of the successful candidate, non-shortlisted applicants will be advised in writing advising their application was unsuccessful.

3.Preparing for Interview

  • Re-read your application and the position description;
  • Focus on the selection criteria and think of examples of work situations where you have applied the relevant skills and abilities, how you assessed the situation, what actions you took, what outcomes you achieved, and how you might do things differently if faced with the same scenario;
  • Think about the duties of the position and how you would perform them.  Consider any problems you may encounter and how you would resolve them;
  • For supervisory positions, consider the special requirements of being a supervisor; and
  • Bring with you relevant pieces of work that display your skills and abilities.

4.The Interview

  • Interviews are conducted by a panel of two or three Town of Cambridge officers.
  • All interview questions will relate to the selection criteria, knowledge, skills, experience and qualifications required for the advertised position.
  • All candidates will be asked the same questions.

5.After the Interview

  • Preferred candidate/s may be required to undertake a pre-employment medical to determine their suitability for the requirements of the role.
  • If successful, a panel member will contact you to verbally offer you the position and agree on a start date.
  • A formal offer of employment will be sent via email and post to the successful candidate/s.
  • The successful candidate is required to complete and return the Acceptance of Offer (contained in the formal offer of employment)
  • All unsuccessful applicants will be notified in writing.
