Reconciliation Action Plan
The Town of Cambridge is proud to be developing its first Reflect Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP). Committing to a Reflect RAP will allow the Town to develop relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander stakeholders who will assist in shaping the Town’s vision for reconciliation.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is a RAP?
Reconciliation Action Plans (RAPs) enable organisations to take a strategic and sustainable approach to meaningful reconciliation and strengthening of relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities for the benefit of all.
There are four types of RAP:
1. Reflect
2. Innovate
3. Stretch
4. Elevate
Each type of RAP is designed to suit an organisation at different stages of their reconciliation journey. Each of the four RAP types set out the minimum elements required from an organisation to build strong relationships, respect and opportunities within an organisation and community.
The proposed Reflect RAP will be the Town’s first Reconciliation Action Plan.
What is a Reflect RAP?
A Reflect RAP clearly sets out the steps an organisation should take to prepare for reconciliation initiatives in subsequent RAPs. Committing to a Reflect RAP will allow the Town to scope and develop relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander stakeholders who will assist in shaping the Town’s vision for reconciliation. This process will help develop future RAPs that are meaningful and sustainable.
Why develop a RAP?
RAPs provide a structured, nationally recognised, tried and tested model for organisations to formalise commitments to reconciliation and help foster a community of shared values and goals.
What are the benefits of a RAP?
By developing a RAP, the Town can:
• Implement a framework that is proven to drive reconciliation through actions
• Turn the good intentions into action by formalising the Town’s commitment to reconciliation
• Join a dynamic and fast-growing network of RAP organisations
• Enable staff to gain a greater cultural understanding and awareness of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
