The Perry Lakes replenishment scheme was implemented to re-establish permanent water in Perry Lakes, by diverting excess water from the Herdsman Main Drain into Perry Lakes. The project involved upgrading and improving existing drainage infrastructure and installing of a pump station next to Newman College.
Since its inception in 2023 the Perry Lakes replenishment scheme has produced inconsistent outcomes, and an audit of the pump system has been proposed to investigate the performance of the scheme and make recommendations to bring the scheme in line with community expectations.
A project working group has been established, bringing together Town of Cambridge Parks officers, local residents and members of the Friends of Perry Lakes. The group provides a diverse mix of skills and local knowledge, including hydrogeology and engineering, and has helped shape the scope for the consultancy services through correspondence and in-person meetings.
A qualified and experienced consultant has been appointed to undertake the scheme audit. The review and data collection phase is now complete, including assessment of design/as-built and maintenance records, analysis of historical pump performance, and consultation with Town staff on known issues and previous works.
The inspection and performance assessment phase is now underway.
