Last Reviewed: 27 January 2026

The Town is upgrading a number of signalised intersections to provide improved pedestrian crossing facilities at various locations where there is outdated and sub-standard infrastructure.  This work is being undertaken in collaboration with Main Roads WA who are responsible for the approval, operation and maintenance of traffic signals in WA.

The upgrades include the installation of Walk / Don’t Walk pedestrian lanterns, timed protection for pedestrians and minor civil works such as kerb ramp modifications, footpath adjustments, and pedestrian guideline road markings.

These upgrades are part of a broader initiative being undertaken by the Town to improve traffic management and pedestrian safety at signalised intersections ensuring the network continues to accommodate all users in an efficient and safe manner.

As part of this program, the following intersections are being upgraded:

  1. Salvado Road / Jersey Street
  2. The Boulevard / Selby Street
  3. Salvado Road / Harborne Street
  4. Selby Street / Cambridge Street Signal Improvements
  5. Jon Sanders Dr, Powis Street and Harborne Street Intersection Improvement

The Town is also progressing measures for three new signalised mid-block pedestrian crossings in collaboration with Main Roads WA.  These measures will provide safe crossing opportunities for pedestrians and other vulnerable road users, help to improve accessibility and encourage people to use active transport modes.

The new signalised mid-block crossings are proposed at:

  1. Railway Parade west of Northwood Street
  2. Lake Monger Drive west of Kimberley Street
  3. Lake Monger Drive west of St Vincents Avenue
