The Town of Cambridge recognises community concerns regarding the use of recording devices in public facilities, particularly in settings where patrons may have an expectation of privacy.

The Town's Local Government and Public Property Local Law 2017 provides a technology-neutral framework for managing behaviour on Town property. The Local Law prohibits behaviour that interferes with another person's use and enjoyment of a community facility and empowers facility managers and authorised persons to direct individuals to leave or remove them where necessary. Suspected breaches of written laws may also be referred to WA Police.

Photography or filming undertaken on local government property for commercial gain or reward requires a permit under the Local Law.

The Town does not currently plan to introduce restrictions specifically relating to smart glasses, but will continue to monitor emerging issues and review operational requirements as appropriate.
