Information Sheet: Road Maintenance

The Town is dedicated to maintaining and enhancing its infrastructure to provide a safe, efficient, and visually appealing environment for the community. A portion of the annual budget is allocated to the improvement and preservation of the road network, supported by municipal funds and external grants from State and Federal governments. Below is an overview of our key engineering operational programs.

Road Maintenance Works Include:

  1. Drainage Pit Educting: This is a process of removing silt and rubbish build up by a truck with an external vacuum hose. This generally occurs annually between October to November and March to April.
  2. Drainage Sumps: Removal of silt and rubbish build-up within drainage sumps to improve drainage efficiency and environmental impact. This generally occurs annually in April, August and December.
  3. Street sweeping: A Town-wide sweep of all roads and car parks is conducted year-round, with each cycle taking approximately 5 to 7 weeks to complete.
  4. Pathway sweeping and repairs: Shared pathways are swept at 6 weekly intervals. Underpasses are cleaned monthly, and repairs are carried out as required.
  5. Laneway cleaning: Laneway vegetation is removed and swept cleaned annually. This generally occurs in February, July and November.
  6. Road and kerbs: Minor maintenance and repairs are performed as required (e.g. potholes and damage).
  7. Signage: Replacement or repair of street name and parking signs are performed as required (excluding regulatory signs like speed signs which are undertaken by Main Roads WA).
  8. Bus Shelters: Cleaning generally occurs annually in April, August and December. Repairs and graffiti removal is performance as required.
  9. Line marking: Line marking is refreshed when faded or as required to change restrictions.

Stormwater Drainage and Flooding

The Town operates a stormwater drainage network designed to collect and convey stormwater from roads to drainage sumps. Drainage from private properties must be retained onsite via soak wells or similar solutions. Connecting private drainage systems to the Town’s network requires prior approval.

Reporting Issues:

If your property is flooding due to water originating from the road or you notice blocked stormwater drains, please contact the Town via mail@cambridge.wa.gov.au

When reporting, please include: The location, date, and time of the incident. Any photos that show the source of the water. This information helps expedite our investigation and response.

Road Signs and Traffic Signals

Many road signs and traffic signals fall under the responsibility of Main Roads WA, including:

  1. Stop, give way, speed, and keep left signs (frequently damaged signage).
  2. Traffic signals.
