Residents transporting green waste are reminded to keep it securely covered and contained at all times.

This helps reduce the spread of the polyphagous shot-hole borer, an invasive beetle that attacks many tree and plant species.

The beetle has been detected in the Perth metropolitan area, and a quarantine area is in place to protect Western Australia’s trees, forests and agricultural industries.

When transporting branches, prunings, mulch, woodchips or other green waste, use a covered trailer, truck or skip bin, and ensure the material cannot spill or blow out.

The Department of Primary Industries & Regional Development (DPIRD) manages quarantine requirements; the Town provides local waste information and services; and the Town’s waste contractor carries out collection and transport services in line with those requirements.

Restrictions may also apply to the movement of some plants, wood and green waste within or outside the quarantine area.

For quarantine maps, disposal advice, and information on identifying or reporting the beetle, visit DPIRD’s polyphagous shot-hole borer webpage.
