Dog attacks

Dog attacks can occur unexpectedly, ranging from threatening behaviour such as rushing, to more serious attacks on a person or animal. The registered owner or the person in control of the attacking dog may be held responsible. The Town's Ranger's will investigate reports of dog attacks and take enforcement action if necessary to protect the community.

The Town encourages attacks, no matter how minor or serious, to be reported to the Town's Ranger and Community Safety Services Team as soon as possible, even if no injury has occurred. Prompt reporting assists in evidence gathering and dog owner education.

It is acknowledged that a dog attack may be distressing, however as much information as possible is required to be obtained at the time of the incident. Witness statements and supporting evidence will be required from all parties involved as part of any investigation undertaken by the Town.

To report a dog attack, contact the Ranger Services and Community Safety Team on (08) 9347 6000.
