A Town Planning Scheme Amendment has been approved for the West Leederville Activity Centre, introducing new zoning opportunities that promote activity in a centralised hub.
The Minister for Planning approved the Scheme Amendment in June, following public consultation and Council's endorsement of the proposal in April 2014.
The approved Town Planning Scheme Amendment introduces a "Mixed Use" Zone along parts of Southport Street and Cambridge Street promoting a mix of retail, cafes and commercial activity at street level with apartments and offices above. The area between Kimberley and Abbotsford Street will generally remain Residential, although, the rezoning will allow for more apartments to be built in the future.
A new "Special Use Zone" applies to the area north of Cambridge Street to support more detailed planning that links Cambridge Street to the Leederville Train Station.
The Amendment also incorporates a density bonus for Wembley corner lots, increasing the existing R20 zoning to R30, allowing for further development subject to meeting specific requirements
