Update on Jersey-Grantham Multi-Intersection Evaluation
Published on 12 August 2025
Following the July Ordinary Council Meeting, the Town of Cambridge is able to provide an update on the Jersey-Grantham multi-intersection evaluation and outline the next steps in our process.
The report on this matter was withdrawn from the July agenda to allow for further review and clarification. This decision was made in response to the significant volume of community feedback received in the days leading up to the meeting, including requests for technical interpretation and concerns about the broader impacts of the proposed recommendations. The Town is committed to approaching this matter in good faith and community feedback has been heard and will be considered in our review.
The Town recognises the importance of ensuring that all community members have access to clear, comprehensive information and the opportunity to engage meaningfully with the process. To that end, we are taking the following steps before the report is re-released:
- Clarifying the Report: We are working to reconsider the report and publish a supplementary document that provides clearer explanations of the technical data and addresses key community questions. This will be made available on the Town’s website and social media channels - not just to those who have submitted queries, so that everyone has equal access to the information.
- Describing the Impact of Alternatives: In response to community advocacy and feedback from Elected Members, we will provide further feedback on the implications of potential alternative decisions or intersection treatments. This includes expanding further on the risks, benefits, and implications of these options to ensure Council can make an informed decision. This is something our community was very clear in requesting. While this may not change the officer recommendation, it will provide advice to Council on the implications if a different alternative is chosen. While the current recommendation to Council may remain unchanged, I want to assure you this is not pre-determined and will be dependent upon the results of our review.
- Engaging with Main Roads WA (MRWA): We will be consulting with MRWA to help clarify whether any alternative options can be considered by the Town. This is not a formal application to MRWA for a different treatment, but rather an early dialogue to understand if the Department’s position has evolved in light of the work done in the last few years, so we can provide accurate advice on current options and potential next steps.
- Providing An Advance Copy of the Report: The updated report will be re-released one month prior to its presentation at either the October or November Ordinary Council Meeting. This will allow sufficient time for community members to review the information and engage with their elected representatives on their views. Should community members have further question on the report at that time, the Town will also be able to respond to questions in advance of the Council meeting.
The Town understands the deep interest and concern this issue has generated, and we thank those community members for their continued engagement. Our goal is to ensure that the final report provides clarity and sound technical analysis to inform Council’s decision.
Community members who have any further questions or would like to be notified when the updated report is published, should contact the Town’s Engineering team via mail@cambridge.wa.gov.au or on (08) 9347 6000.
