Spotlight Shines on Senior Services Volunteers
Published on 21 May 2025
The Town of Cambridge proudly celebrates the contributions of dedicated community members through its Spotlight on a Volunteer programme.
This initiative recognises individuals who go above and beyond in their service and support for others, helping to strengthen our community and inspire a culture of volunteerism.
The programme invites nominations from residents, volunteers, and community organisations and is closely linked to the Town’s annual Volunteer Recognition Function, where award recipients are formally acknowledged among their peers.
This month, we shine a spotlight on two outstanding Cambridge Champions – Wendy Richards and Christine Howe – nominated by the Town’s Cambridge Senior Services team in recognition of their commitment and compassion.
For the past four years, Wendy and Christine have played a pivotal role in delivering a variety of programmes that support older residents. Their leadership of the Cambridge Coasters Walking Group has fostered a welcoming and inclusive environment that promotes physical activity, social connection, and wellbeing.
Wendy, a retired nurse, brings warmth and encouragement to every walk. She understands the importance of staying active and connected and helps foster a friendly environment where participants feel supported and valued.
Christine, who has a background in occupational therapy, also volunteers with the Memory Café and the Friends in Harmony Choir. Her considerate approach to inclusion and engagement ensures that everyone feels seen, heard, and involved – whether they are out for a walk, enjoying music, or simply having a cuppa.
Wendy and Christine volunteer because they believe in the power of community. Their kindness, reliability, and genuine care have made a lasting impact on those around them.
The Town thanks Wendy and Christine for their service and dedication. They embody the spirit of the Spotlight on a Volunteer programme and remind us of the important role volunteers play in building a stronger, more connected community.
Do you know a great volunteer in Cambridge? If so, nominate them to be our next Spotlight on a Volunteer.
