Fishing locations

Fishing practices that attract large sharks and pose a risk to human safety are prohibited under the Town of Cambridge Local Government and Public Property Local Law 2017.

To ensure everyone can enjoy our beautiful coastline, the Town of Cambridge has designated specific areas where fishing can be carried out safely and harmoniously alongside other visitors.

As fishing takes place in shared spaces with swimmers, surfers, and other beach users, we ask that you follow the restrictions and local laws in place. This helps keep the beachfront safe, pleasant, and enjoyable for all.

For details on permitted fishing locations, please refer to our Fishing Area Map(PDF, 512KB).

  • Do not deposit fish offal or bait on land or in the sea within 200 metres of any part of the beach.
  • Do not use berley, oil, or composite materials.
  • Do not fish for sharks using set or buoyed lines, or use blood, offal, or any other lure to attract sharks within 200 metres of any beach.
