Parking Fines and Appeals

Overview

Parking restrictions in the Town of Cambridge are in place to ensure all residents and visitors have equal access to parking.

If you have received a parking infringement you may choose to take one of the following actions:

  • Take no action
  • Nominate another driver of the vehicle
  • Pay the parking infringement
  • Appeal the parking infringement
  • Take the matter to court
Please note: the Town of Cambridge is currently experiencing an influx of appeals. We are endeavouring to undertake reviews as soon as possible, however please note no secondary review or response will be provided following an appeal review being completed.

Take no action

The following is advised should you choose to take no action with regard to your parking infringement:

  • Payment is required within 28 days from the date of issue of the Infringement Notice.
  • After 28 days a Reminder Notice will be issued.
  • After a further 28 days a Final Demand Notice will be issued and this will include an agency fee.
  • If payment has still not been received the Infringement will be referred to the Fines Enforcement Registry.

*If you have not received a Reminder Notice or a Final Demand Notice please do not assume that you do not have to pay or take any action.

Nominate another driver of the vehicle

Under s9.13 of the Local Government Act 1995 vehicle owner information may be disclosed from relevant state authorities for the purpose of enforcing the Town of Cambridge's relevant Local Laws.

Nominations can only be accepted by the registered owner of the vehicle, or, if the vehicle is registered in a company name, by a representative of that company.

If you were not the driver of the vehicle at the time the infringement was issued, you have 28 days to nominate the driver by completing a Statutory Declaration(PDF, 45KB) giving the driver's full name and current address.

Parking Infringements received from February – July 2025

If you received a parking infringement between 5 February – 4 July 2025 and did not appeal the infringement at the time because you were told user error was not an option for appeal – you may be able to apply for a retrospective appeal due to the recent Council decision to broaden the avenues for appeal of parking infringements to include user error. Click here to read more.

To apply for retrospective appeal please complete the Appeal Infringement form. You will be asked to provide the supporting information required for ‘User Error’ appeals as well as proof of payment of the initial infringement.
