Wembley Golf Course has been celebrated at the 2025 WA Golf Industry Awards with Maintenance Coordinator Luke Candido named Employee of the Year, recognised for his outstanding contribution to the operation, maintenance and ongoing improvement of the facility.

Held at Optus Stadium on Friday 27 March 2026, the WA Golf Industry Awards recognise outstanding achievement across the golf industry in Western Australia.

Over nine years of dedicated service, Luke has become a highly valued member of the Wembley team, known for consistently going above and beyond his role. His commitment extends well beyond typical maintenance responsibilities, with his willingness to provide after-hours support helping ensure seamless operations during critical periods.

Recognising the growing role of technology in golf, Luke has undertaken specialist TrackMan training, positioning him as the facility’s go-to expert for the system. Since the introduction of TrackMan and the increase in driving range patronage, he has played an important role in maintaining the facility to a high standard while responding quickly to issues to minimise disruption and reduce customer dissatisfaction.

His leadership was evident in 2025 through project work, including his role in helping oversee the driving range steel rectification works. These projects required close coordination between Town employees, golf course staff and contractors, with Luke regularly commended for his collaborative and easy-to-work-with approach. He is also widely respected as a mentor within the maintenance team, helping create a positive work environment where staff feel supported and safe.

Mayor Mack said it was especially pleasing to see individual excellence recognised.

“It is always encouraging to see the people behind a high-performing facility acknowledged for the contribution they make. Wembley Golf Course continues to set a very high standard for public golf in Western Australia, and this award is a credit to Luke for his dedication, professionalism and passion,” he said.

In 2025, Wembley delivered around 195,000 golf rounds, more than 53,000 mini golf rounds, 10,124 PGA coaching sessions and over 22 million range balls hit, highlighting its important role in growing the game and providing an accessible, high-quality public golf experience.

Wembley Golf Course continues to provide multiple entry points into golf, with two 18-hole championship courses, short game practice areas, an 80-bay TrackMan driving range, mini golf, coaching programs and inclusive participation opportunities for juniors, women and people with disability.

This latest success continues Wembley Golf Course’s strong track record at the WA Golf Industry Awards, where the facility has previously won the 2023 Metropolitan Golf Facility of the Year title and Andrew Thomas also received the 2023 WA PGA Coach of the Year (Game Development) award.
