The Town of Cambridge is proud to accept the 2025 Most Accessible Communities WA (MACWA) Award in the Employment category.

The Town was one of only five local governments across Western Australia to be recognised, reflecting a strong and sustained commitment to accessibility, inclusion, and equitable employment.

The award acknowledges outstanding service to the community and recognises the Town’s leadership in creating meaningful employment opportunities for people with disability.

Mayor Gary Mack said the recognition was a significant achievement for the organisation and the community alike.

“We are honoured that the Town of Cambridge was nominated for a 2025 MACWA award,” he said. “It is a privilege to stand alongside organisations making a positive difference across Western Australia.”

Mayor Mack said the award reflected Cambridge’s deliberate focus on working with disability-led businesses and social enterprises, particularly through the Town of Cambridge’s dedicated Community Services team.

“Over recent years, we have prioritised partnerships with organisations led by people with disability or those that actively employ them. This approach delivers real value for individuals, our organisation and the broader community.”

A key initiative contributing to the award was a partnership with The Periscope Crew, a disability-led social enterprise, which produced short films showcasing major Town events, including Carols by the Lake, Cambridge Street Festival, and the Volunteer Recognition Function. The partnership provided paid employment for young people with disability while strengthening inclusive hiring practices.

The Town has also engaged disability-led businesses and performers across its events and activities, including Kyal’s Coffee Kart, Glissando Music Therapy, DJ Incredable, Matt the Showman, Carys’ Candles to Calm, and The Recycleman Perth.

“The Town of Cambridge is proud of the progress we have made in Disability Access and Inclusion. This important recognition strengthens our ongoing commitment to building a community that is welcoming, accessible, and inclusive for all,” Mayor Mack said.
