The Role

Join our Regulatory Services branch to deliver high-quality and efficient environmental and public health services within the Town. As the successful applicant, you'll provide technical advice to the community and staff, conduct inspections and licensing of food businesses, and ensure regulatory compliance.

This role also involves being challenged with a variety of tasks, including but not limited to investigating and resolving noise, water and air complaints, undertaking pest control inspections and baiting, public pool and ocean water sampling, processing septic tank and greywater applications, and handling settlement enquiries related to environmental health. Additionally, you'll promote awareness of ecological and public health issues within the community.

 

Selection Criteria

This role is responsible for providing an efficient and effective environmental and public health service to the community and residents that aligns with the Town’s core values of Respect, Friendly and Helpful, Teamwork, Integrity, and Creativity. 

The following selection criteria are identified as being required to achieve the outcomes in the context of this position. Applicants will need to provide evidence of their capacity to transfer their knowledge and skills to achieving the outcomes of this position.

  • Extensive knowledge of statutory provisions relating to environmental health and public health
  • Experience as an Environmental Health Officer
  • Experience assisting in policy and program development, and demonstrate good research and evaluation skills to identify program solutions
  • Work-specific knowledge in the provision of environmental health services
  • Good written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills with proven ability to liaise with diverse stakeholders and influence to gain cooperation and support
  • Good planning/organisational and teamwork skills, including demonstrated ability to prioritise competing demands and meet deadlines

 

Eligibility

  • Right to work in Australia (birth certificate, current passport, or current visa)
  • Current WA driver’s licence.
  • Tertiary qualifications in environmental health acceptable per the Chief Health Officer of the Department of Health under the Public Health Act 2016.
  • Authorisation as an Authorised Person and Inspector under the Environmental Protection Act 1986 is essential.
