Can you help unlock the mystery of the origins of the new public art that sits at the centre of the recently revamped Rutter Park in Wembley?

The grand limestone donut-shaped objet d'art was salvaged from the old nursery site on Salvado Road and now takes pride of place as the centrepiece to the new nature play area currently being built at Rutter Park. It's believed the piece had been at the old nursery site since City of Perth days, but where it originated from remains a mystery.

The nature play area, due to be finished in the new year, is the final element of a $320,000 package of improvements, which were opened to the community at last weekend's popular Summer of Fun 'Music in the Park'.

The improvement works, approved in 2015 after consulting with the community, include:

  • extended paths for improved wheelchair and pram access;
  • accessible barbecues;
  • shaded picnic area with tables;
  • park seating;
  • bike racks; and
  • drink fountain.

Suitable for children of all ages, the new 30m dual flying fox which sits next to the nature play area proved a big hit at the weekend with kids, young and old, getting in on the action!

The Rutter Park improvements support Cambridge Council's commitment to providing accessible, engaging and safe parks and play spaces the whole community can enjoy.
