After the success of the 2017 Women's Community Football Carnival, the local West Coast Amateur Football Club (WCAFC) women's team will make their mark on club history by competing in the inaugural Western Australian Amateur Football League (WAAFL) Women's Competition.

The team of 25 women train at City Beach Oval and have always been keen football observers but have never had the opportunity to take part in the sport at a competitive level, with most players coming from soccer, netball, basketball and hockey backgrounds.

The new competition provides young women with the opportunity to enjoy playing football at an appropriate level for their ability.  Coaches, Damian Verazzi and Tal Berman, say they aim to help the team learn new skills and strategies to improve their game play and to keep the team together into the future.  "A future which could very well include pathways to playing at WAFL and AFLW if they wish to move up from an amateur level," said Ms Berman.

The first round of competition starts on Sunday, 29 April.  After a successful 2017 Women's Community Football Carnival season, the team have set their sights on making it to the 2018 finals.  "Our expectations aren't too high until we see what the competition is like,"continued Ms Berman.
