Cambridge Coastcare volunteers will soon start repairing blowouts in the dunes at Floreat dog beach thanks to funding support from the Town and State Government.
Grant funding of $11,200 was awarded under the State's Coastwest program which supports the protection and conservation of our coast. The Town will contribute $7,400 towards the purchase of plants and fencing, plus provide logistical support to the volunteers. Cambridge Coastcare will make up the balance of the $24,500 project.
The plan is to lay about 1600 square metres of coir matting up the dunes, then plant the matting with tough plants like spinifex to arrest the blowouts and revegetate the dunes.
Blowouts are exacerbated by people walking and running through the dunes so signs to discourage this behaviour are also planned.
