A distinctive sandstone sculpture, the centrepiece of the recently revamped Rutter Park, is slowly being destroyed.

The 1978 sculpture, created by artist Mark Le Buse, has attracted the attention of some visitors to the park who have gouged large holes in the piece.

Due to damage sustained since being in installed at Rutter Park last month the sculpture will be fenced off until repaired.

Please help us preserve this local work for the enjoyment of all.

About the Sculpture

The free form sculpture was originally created at the corner of Hay and Pier streets and presented to the people of Perth by the Festival of Perth Committee in 1978.

It was later moved to a small park in Wellington Street before being deposited at the old nursery site on Salvado Road in Jolimont.

The recent development of the nursery site unearthed the sculpture which was relocated to Rutter Park to ensure its preservation and for the enjoyment of visitors to the park.

About the Artist

Born in the USA, Mark Le Buse arrived in Perth in the early 1970s. Over the next decade he was commissioned to produce numerous works, most notably the Waugal Monolith sculpture collection created in 1976 at the Two Rocks Shopping Centre, to commemorate Western Australia’s 150th anniversary.
