The Town of Cambridge acknowledges the State Administrative Tribunal’s (SAT) decision to uphold the appeal regarding the removal of a mature tuart tree on private property at 81 Branksome Gardens in City Beach.

This decision invalidates the Town’s direction notice requiring cessation of the tree removal, thereby permitting the tree’s removal.

The SAT’s recognition that tree removal constitutes a form of “development” is a significant step forward. This acknowledgment reinforces the legitimacy of Local Planning Policies (LPPs) such as the Town’s LPP 3.25: Tree Retention and supports the broader goal of protecting urban tree canopy across Western Australia.

The Town remains committed to preserving mature trees and enforcing its tree retention policy as part of its climate resilience strategy. We thank the community for their continued support and vigilance in protecting our urban environment.
